Latest Transfer Rumours: Badiashile, Saliba & Skov

Wolves Rumours: A look at the latest names to be linked with a move to the Black Country.

We are entering the second week of July and Wolves are yet to make a new first-team signing. Fan favourite Raul Jimenez and Leander Dendoncker have completed permanent moves officially this summer and Wolves will surely look to add to the squad ahead of their upcoming participation in the Europa League.

Lots of players have been linked but little has come to fruition, let’s take a look at some of the players that have been recently suggested to be on Wolves’ radar.

Benoit Badiashile

A report by French publication L’Equipe was published late last Monday night, and for those fans who were awake, they must have been excited to see the club linked to a new player, however that excitement may have been short lived as this isn’t a transfer that seems likely. L’Equipe says that Wolves are interested in Monaco defender Benoit Badiashile. Benoit has an older brother, Loic, who also plays for Monaco. Benoit is 18-years-old and became a regular for a struggling Monaco side last season under Thierry Henry, making 19 appearances in total. He is also capped up to under 19 level for France.

Benoit is a promising young defender who at such a young age has a good amount of competitive experience under his belt. He is comfortable on the ball and is nearly as tall as man mountain Willy Boly, Benoit is 6 ft 4, just one inch smaller than Willy.

The reason why this transfer seems unlikely is due to the reported price that Benoit would command. L’Equipe says that Monaco value Benoit at €40m. This has similarities to when Wolves signed Ruben Vinagre however, Ruben cost a lot less when he arrived.

It certainly is possible we could see Benoit join the club, however it doesn’t seem likely, especially with the fee he could cost.

William Saliba

Another teenage sensation and another one who is French. This week, reports surfaced saying Wolves were rivalling Arsenal for the signing of defender William Saliba. Primarily a central defender, Saliba plays for Saint-Etienne and also made 19 appearances last season. Saliba has been on Arsenal’s radar for a while, but while they stutter over their transfer budget for the summer, Wolves are said to have made an enquiry. Saliba is right-footed and it is well documented that Wolves are after another defender.

Saliba likes to bring the ball out of defence and drive forward, he has a pass completion percentage of 85.6% and holds a rating of 7.11, when playing as a centre half according to WhoScored.

Saint-Etienne have reportedly asked for €30m and with Arsenal stalling, could Wolves step in?

Possibly, although there is also said to be interest from Roma so Saliba has plenty of attractive options if he decides to leave Saint-Etienne.

This could be one to watch over the coming days as Arsenal prepares to step up their chase.

Robert Skov

Spanish news outlet El Desmarque first reported that Celta Vigo were interested in Denmark winger Robert Skov who currently plays for Copenhagen. However, Vigo face competition from Spurs but also Wolves.

Skov would not command an extortionate fee and Wolves would be able to compete with Vigo, if Spurs’ interest is real then that may be a stumbling block.

Skov broke a Danish Superliga record last season, scoring the most goals in a single season. He scored 29 goals for Copenhagen and recently made his international debut last month, featuring in a match against Georgia.

Copenhagen are managed by former Wolves boss Stale Solbakken which adds a connection between Skov and Wolves. Would he be willing to do his former club a favour?

He has also been named as Player of The Year for the Danish Superliga during 2018 and was on the scoresheet as Copenhagen beat Bordeaux in the Europe League back in October.

He has a very good goal-scoring record for a player who usually plays as a right-winger, even if the Danish Superliga is not the most competitive.

There is a question over where he would fit into Nuno’s 3-5-2 system. Could he play behind the striker or even up top, providing competition alongside Diogo Jota?

Other players have been linked to the club in recent weeks including Edson Alvarez, Ezri Konsa, James Tarkowski and Harry Wilson however nothing has yet to come of any link so far. There is still over 4 weeks to go though until the transfer deadline, so there is plenty of time to seal any upcoming transfer deals.
