Wolves v Fulham: History & Preview
By Adam Carr
Wolves come into Saturday’s game knowing that a win will all but secure 7th place for the club. All we rely on then is for Manchester City to beat Watford in the FA Cup final, and Wolves would be in the Europa League next season. Some say it’s too soon for Wolves to be in Europe, but it’s not about winning, for many Wolves fans it’s just about being there.
Wolves and Fulham have faced off against each other a total of 91 times, Wolves losing 26, drawing 23 but winning a massive 42 of them.
The first game between the two teams was a Wolves 2-0 win away against Fulham in Division 2 all the way back on 9th November 1907. The sides met a further two times in 1908, again in Division 2 with Wolves losing 2-1 and 1-0.
Wolves and Fulham have met in every decade since the 1900’s, apart from the 1930’s. For most of the last 100 years the two sides have been playing each other in league games, showing they have had a similar journey over that period.
Wolves were promoted as Championship winners last season with Fulham winning the playoffs. Even so, in our last 3 games with Fulham, 2 in the Championship last season and 1 in the Premier League this season, we have won only 1 of them, a 2-0 win at Molineux back in 2017.
Wolves' last 5 results:
Watford 3-2 Wolves (FA Cup Semi Final)
Southampton 3-1 Wolves
Wolves 0-0 Brighton
Wolves 3-1 Arsenal
Watford 1-2 Wolves
Fulham's last 5 results:
Fulham 0-2 Manchester City
Watford 4-1 Fulham
Fulham 2-0 Everton
Bournemouth 0-1 Fulham
Fulham 1-0 Cardiff
As we can see here, Fulham have kept 3 clean sheets on the trot, so even though some may say they’re due to concede, they obviously have a difficult defence to break down. Fulham are already relegated but have won their last 3 and wont be pushovers by any means.
Wolves form has been up and down as of late, but wins against Arsenal and Watford will give confidence going into an important game for the side. We all know about that curse of the bottom 6, but if there’s any time to take points off a bottom six team, it’s now. Although relegated, Fulham are now also in form, which may pay into our hands – we seem to do better against form teams.
Based on this after my first correct prediction last week (woohoo!) I’d go for a Wolves 2-0 Fulham result.
Prediction : Wolves 2-0 Fulham
